We stand at the threshold of 2026, and this message invites us to see our Christian walk as a race that requires intentional preparation, discipline, and endurance. Drawing from 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, we're reminded that while everyone in a race runs, only those who run with purpose and discipline will obtain the prize. The powerful imagery of athletes competing in the ancient Isthmian games helps us understand that our spiritual race isn't about competing with each other, but about competing against ourselves to become better disciples. What's striking is the contrast between two types of crowns: the perishable wreath that ancient athletes sought, and the imperishable crown of righteousness awaiting those who faithfully finish the race. This isn't a sprint where we give everything in one moment and then coast; it's a marathon requiring daily commitment. The message challenges us to examine whether we're truly dressed for the race, spiritually prepared, or sitting in a lazy boy unaware that the starting gun has already fired. We're offered a practical framework for spiritual fitness through the acronym PLACE: being Prayerful, Living it out, understanding Apologetics, knowing our Core beliefs, and being Equipped. This year can be different if we choose to make our bodies slaves to our spiritual goals rather than letting our flesh dictate our spiritual lives. The blessing is that as we run this race well, we not only move toward our eternal prize but also become living testimonies that bless the non-believers around us, showing them what a life lived for Christ truly looks like.
